Entry from: Cairns, Australia Entry Title: "Boulders and …. argggggh pigs!" Entry: "Finally a sleep in! Had a later start today then ambled over the street around 10am to pick up our Avis hire car. Had a yummy cooked breakfast at a cafe overlooking the Cairns foreshore and then headed south on our day trip to Babinda. Stopped briefly at the Babinda tourist office for some directions. Babinda has nicknamed itself "Umbrella Town" and seems quite proud of its copious rainfall. We can see that being an effective tourism campaign… "Come to Babinda, bring an umbrella 'cause you'll need one". Hmmm, perhaps not? Babinda's main attraction is the "Babinda Boulders". The boulders are, well, big boulders in the stream. The Boulders area starts with a still pool of water, a popular (though freezing) swimming spot that reflects the colours of the rock very prettily. The stream continues downhill through many strewn boulders. Very picturesque here with teeming greenery on all sides. There were a lot of Ulysees butterflies here too. Great splashes of brilliant blue flitting around the boulders and whirling up on air currents. Jeff was very tempted to try and take photos of them again but decided they were just teasing him.
